Overture Australia are responsible for listing sites on Yahoo.com.au, Altavista.com.au, hp.com.au and their own search engine, overture.com. Overture operates on a "Pay Per Click" system whereby it auctions its keywords i.e. the more you pay the higher your ranking.
Essentially, you set the price you're willing to pay for each sales lead (there is a minimum bid requirement of $0.10 per click-through) and pay only when customers click through to your site. Dependant on how the amount of your bid compares to that of bids placed by competitors bidding for the same keyword will determine how you are ranked on the search engine in comparison to those competitors.
When two or more advertisers place the same "max bid" on a keyword / term, Overture will give the first advertiser who bid on that term the higher position in the search listings. For example, if there are 2 advertisers that have placed a max bid of 25 cents on a term, they will be listed in order of "seniority." Both of their max bids will remain at 25 cents, and Advertiser #1 will pay 25 cents. The cost for Advertiser #2 will depend on whether he has set a fixed or an auto bid.
A $100 initial deposit is non-refundable and will be applied to click-throughs. Overture requires all accounts to incur a minimum of $25 a month in click-through charges. If your account does not reach the $25 minimum by the last day of the month, you will be charged the difference between what you have spent and $25. You can avoid this fee by ensuring your site receives at least $25 in click-through charges each month. There are four easy ways to help you receive $25 worth of clicks:
- Bid your listings higher
- Add new listings to your account
- Add the corresponding search term to each listing's title and description to maximize your click-through rate
- Make sure your account does not go offline before receiving $25 in click-through charges for the month
